The ACM Group 2018 https://group.acm.org/conferences/group18/ took place again on Sanibel Island, FL. This year the conference moved to January (because CSCW moved to Fall).
For over 25 years, the ACM Group is the International Conference for discussing research on Supporting Group Work (GROUP) . It has been a premier venue for research on Computer Supported Cooperative Work, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Supported Collaborative Learning and Socio-Technical Studies. The conference integrates work in social science, computer science, engineering, design, values, and other topics related to group work, broadly conceptualized.
This year was special! I had the chance to talk with Jimmy Wales (WIkipedia Founder) and his next big thing in fighting fake news with Wikitribune, https://www.wikitribune.com/ what he calls "evidence-based journalism". Our IE Lab does a lot of usability and user experience (UX) studies with the MU School of Journalism (one of oldest formal journalism schools in the word, founded in 1908), so this might be a great opportunity to work together :-)
